Fresh Tofu are simply blocks of soy milk that has curdled to form a firm block, ready to be chopped and added to your tasty dishes. It is a key ingredient in so many Asian cuisines but originates from China over a thousand years ago. Tofu from China, Japan and Korea differ slightly in texture but the essence is the same – blocks of creamy protein-rich soybean blocks that add texture, nutrition and a lovely delicate flavour to your cooking.
You have probably tried tofu in restaurants before in classic dishes such as Ma Po Tofu and salt & pepper tofu, or perhaps you have used it at home – adding it to stir-fries and curries. At Miso Tasty, we have created a Craft Tofu that will really elevate your tofu cooking at home, and give you a greater appreciation for what great tofu tastes like. Tofu has been long embraced outside of Asia too, initially as an ingredient popular with those that enjoy plant-based diets as an essential centre-piece replacing meat or fish in dishes. It is fantastic to see tofu being used in non-Asian dishes too such as in scrambles, burger fillings and in salads. We love the versatility of this ingredient and cook with it frequently in a variety of cuisines. As well as fresh blocks of tofu – which can have a variety of textures -there are many other types of tofu too. You can find dried tofu, fried touch puffs, fermented tofu and silken egg tofu too from the oriental supermarkets. To read more about the different types of tofu, read more about it here.
