Miso Tasty is the brainchild of passionate foodie & startup founder, Bonnie Chung.
“For years miso was my secret weapon in the kitchen. But my fascination for this ancient Japanese superfood led me to embark upon a 3 year quest around the world, to make my own miso! My recipes are all created using the best miso in Japan, packed full of authentic flavour and natural goodness!”
WHO IS BONNIE?
Bonnie had always wanted to run her own business but her first love was FOOD! As a passionate foodie and chef, miso was one of Bonnies favourite ingredients, it represented all that she adored about Japanese food; complex flavours, versatility, craft, heritage, as well as incredible health benefits.
Whilst working as a chef at the age of 24, Bonnie had a eureka moment and came up with the idea of Miso Tasty. Fast-forward 7 years and Miso Tasty makes Japanese food that is easy, nutritious and features her signature ingredient, miso!
Within just 2 years of launching Miso Tasty her food products were stocked in over 1,000 stores nationwide including Waitrose, Sainsburys, Wholefoods and Ocado. This growing success is reflected in Bonnie’s passion and drive, as Miso Tasty has become a labour of love for herself and the growing team.
Bonnie is also an award-winning entrepreneur and author self penning Miso Tasty: The Cookbook which is available in over 15 countries.
OUR JOURNEY SO FAR
The idea behind Miso Tasty began seven years ago, but Bonnie’s dream was not realised overnight. In fact, it took Bonnie 3 long years before she finally found the miso makers who would recreate the recipes of her design.
“What I thought would take me a few months to complete… turned into three years! It took over 65 manufacturing trials around the world before we found the right partners in Japan, making over 2 tonnes of miso before we finalised our recipes.”
Bonnie’s voyage of discovery led her to the Shinshu region at the foot of the Central Japanese Alps. This area is renowned for having the best conditions for making miso & is home to the finest craftsmen for miso. Japan was the only place that had the know-how and experience to create the miso flavours Bonnie wanted for Miso Tasty. Japan continues to be the home of production for all of Miso Tasty’s miso. The photos above show Bonnie visiting various miso factories throughout Japan.
Miso Tasty’s products were launched in the UK in 2014 and can now be found in major retailers including Tesco, Waitrose, Morrisons, Ocado and Wholefoods. The Miso Tasty cookbook was also published in 2016 and won the award for Japanese Cuisine at the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards 2017. Today, Miso Tasty has a range of miso soup kits, meal kits and miso cooking pastes. Our products carry a number of Great Taste awards and were recently endorsed by Jamie Oliver’s TV show and his accompanying No.1 best-seller “5 Ingredients” cookbook.
