Miso Spacey

Miso soup will soon find its way into space, as it has been selected by the Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) as a new dish to be supplied to Japanese astronauts!

JAXA want to “enrich the variety of Japanese space food”, so miso soup was an obvious place to start. It ticks all the boxes that space food has to tick: it can be vacuum packed; it’s made by simply adding hot water; it won’t scatter in bits and pieces; it will last for 18 months at room temperature, and it has less than 1g of sodium. Just a few requirements set down by JAXA, which tend to make feeding astronauts a little tricky. Thankfully miso soup has come to the rescue!

By adding exciting new dishes (obviously none of the other dishes are quite as exciting as miso soup), to the astronauts’ diets, JAXA hopes to “help improve the nutritional balance of astronauts, alleviate their mental stresses, and enhance their performance.”

If you need help with any of those issues down here on planet Earth, just click here to get your miso supply straight to your door. Unfortunately we don’t yet deliver to outer space. We’ll start working on that now.
